|

Obviously I'm asking because I don't have an antistatic bracelet or anything similar. I plan on transporting RAM by itself and it's likely it has static or a charge of some sort in it. Any advice?

Put the RAM in an antistatic bag is the best thing you can do...

Antistatic bracelets are useless, just touch anything metal (computer case even works) to ground yourself and you'll be fine.

He want's to ground his RAM. Will it work if he holds the Ram in his hand and using the other hand touches a plain metal to ground himself and the ram?

Yeah, probably. It requires a high amount of static to damage something such as RAM and unless you rubbed the damn thing along a carpet or something for 20 minutes I'm sure nothing ill would happen to it. Touch the RAM to something metal, touch the RAM while touching something metal, etc.

just ground yourself as you're building it.
as long as you aren't putting it together while rubbing your sock covered feet on the carpet, you'll be fine.

Gaha, reminds me of my first build... Did it on a carpet with a down sweater. ;D Nothing happened though, I'm that pro.

Holy shit.
This sounds ridiculous, but my computer chair sits on a rather shaggy carpet, and I'm wearing socks. Fuck.
I'll take them off and get off the carpet I guess. Thanks for the answers, guys.

laff, don't worry so much, seriously.
nothing is going to happen outside of the most bizarre and extreme cases, it's much harder to damage something than you may think. unless you fucking snap something in half or whatever, i doubt you will ever run into trouble.
