You have xp right? Whats it run idling with just windows services/av going?

Do a clean boot by turning off all the extras (run>msconfig>startup)

gameboost didnt, and wouldnt do anything. cpu power isnt going to a bunch of random processes, and ram isnt an issue. everything lags, all cpu power goes to firefox, svchost, and games of corse, but even when i have power to spare, it lags. everything lags, even calculator lags a bit, ive run virus scan with a few programs, so i dont think its that, and i just got this computer about 4 months ago, so its not out of date. though if its broken... is there software that could tell me if that is true?

would having a HD with 452/500 GB cause everything to lag? including something simple like flash video?

Utorrent doesnt hog cpu at all. But it does hog internet speed if you are downloading something bigish. It looks like he has a virus.

Actually it does hog cpu when downloading intensivly.

back to thread :
1. Clean fans.
2. Check temps
3. Make sure no service, process or program is taking up bandwidth or makes your pc sad any other way.

Can we have a screen shot of the processes running? From Task Manager, processes from all users.

i just reformatted with no luck. so its not a virus, or atleast not completly. though it seems all that i have a lag problem with now is browsers, taking up 70% and lagging to play a video.
its not overheating problem, cause nothing is even at 60C when its lagging me, though it does of coarse ram up to 80 after awhile

Be sure the CPU is running at the correct speed. Although unlikely, if it's getting hot as hell it might be throttling itself; if so, remove CPU fan, clean the fuck out out of it, reapply thermal paste and reseat.
