|
|
Should I get Windows 7?
I`m running Windows XP Profession SP3 right now.
Specs :
Processor: Pentium 4: 2.8GhZ
RAM: 2.8 GB
Hard Drive : 40GB - 17GB available.
Graphics Card (Video Adapter) : Intel(R) 82945G Express Family Chipset
Before I get comments on my PC, notice I bought this May of 2005. This is fairly 4 years old, still running fine, I`m thinking about getting a new computer, but not yet. It`s running slow even though I have upgraded it`s RAM. I was wondering if I upgrade to Windows 7 if it`ll increase it`s performance
QUESTION: Windows Aero: You're current graphics card won't support the Windows Aero Interface.
------------------------------------------------------------------
So it`s basically saying to upgrade my graphics card? but I read somewhere that you`ll be able to have touch screen with Windows 7, BUT I don`t need the touch screen, so what`s the whole deal about Windows Aero Interface? _________________

Its bullshit. My netbook could run aero while I had 7 on it. It has a GMA950 (945 express). My aunts desktop has the same chipset. It will work fine.
You might wanna get a hard drive from this century though. Possibly with atleast 160GB space. |

My computer came with 80GB, what happened was I was new at hacking "MS" and 'some kid over the internet' sent over a cheat engine, and he put a virus or whatever in it, and it kept making my computer restart over and over again. So then my dad took out 1 of the hard drives (40GB) and just reformatted the other 40. So that`s why I have only that much. lol. _________________

Ha, I remember that virus. Yea most prebuilt pcs from 3 years ago only had 80gb. Now-a-days, they have 120gb minimum. Just buy another and put it in. Most pcs can support atleast 2 HDD if its IDE. If its SATA based motherboard, it can support 4 HDD usually, but most prebuilt PSU only have enough power support for 2 at a time.
But your pc should handle aero just fine. |

Yeah I`ve opened up my computer a couple of times, I took out the hard drive and it does have 2 slots. Hard drives are big as hell though. _________________

Just snag a better video card (you can get one that supports Windows Aero for under $50) and you won't even have that bad of a computer. Check whether you have AGP or PCI-E and I'll find one that'll work for you. _________________

if OP's computer is a p4, what are the chances there is a PCI-E?
unless he replaced his mobo before, is not going to be PCI-E _________________

No, it has a PCI-E slot in it. & I was thinking about buying this 1 graphics card from Walmart, it was a 512MB Radeon Graphics card I think? it was exactly $50. I tried to put in another graphics card before it was a GeForce w/ 512MB it came with this huge fan connected to it it wouldn`t fit in my computer because my computer has this big ass internal cooler or I don`t know what the fuck that is because I`ve never seen it in any other computer, I`ll take a pic of it. _________________

And get this card. Free shipping, so you pay exactly $55. Will most likely work. I'll look at the picture you're going to take of it before I tell you to definitely buy this card. _________________

This HD 4650 is a much, much better deal.
Newer computers with dual core processors will definitely help your Windows 7 experience, although you'd have to throw down more money for the hardware. _________________

How can I make sure my computer has a PCI-E graphic card port? I remmeber my uncle brought over a graphics card from Germany for my PC but it didn`t fit because the pins didn`t match and his card was an AGP card. _________________

Intel 945G motherboards use 16-lane PCIe. With the HD 4650, you might have to check on power draw, but the lack of a 6-pin PCIe power connector is a tell-tale sign that it won't draw too much power. _________________

I think i'd stay on XP, win XP still is a fine OS IMO. I had Win7 installed on my P4, it ran fine, and the startup sure was nice, but it started to lagg a bit when having serveral applications open, and MSVC2010 sure runs alot smoother on XP, it shortened the compilation time quite a lot |
