My friend wanted to have higher screen resolution on his ubuntu which is installed on a 8GB usb
So i told him to install his video drivers but than his usb wouldnt boot up giving him a kernel sync error
We formatted and tried to reinstall ubuntu but it wont boot up anymore
Is it possible to kill a usb from a video driver installation ?
I am kind of getting blamed for this and have no idea how a installation can kill a usb _________________

If it has been formatted, then everything has been completely wiped off it.
I don't think it's the driver's fault. I think you should try re-installing Ubuntu on the USB. http://www.pendrivelinux.com/ _________________

I tried exactly that
but we get Grub Loading... when it starts up and it just stops there
Do you think a video card driver could put a usb to total fault ? _________________

So you are helping out and you're getting the blame? Is your friend that fuckin stupid? Does he also blame his mom for his underwear having large brown spots because she forgot to tell him to wipe his ass after he takes a shit?
I doubt it's the video card driver and I doubt it's you who kill his USB drive.
Plug the usb drive to another system and see if it works. If yes then tell him to own you $5 million for the developing of a neurological break down. |

Yea i know, apparently now i've been making up stuff about how a installation like that can kill his usb stick and might ask me to pay for it
Were in one Comp Sci class so we tried it on several computers
Our teacher tried to clone his ubuntu onto the usb but it gave him a fatal parition error
So we manually created a partition and it reinstalled ubuntu but got stuck at the Grub loading screen
He says i killed it because it stopped working right after we did that _________________

I don't understand, installing drivers on a USB. It's the same as copying files into a USB. Once the USB is formatted, the files are gone.
I highly doubt it's the driver. _________________

Hes one of those "not so found with alot of computing skills like drivers, and reinstalling"
and I just need to prove that it cannot kill ur usb stick like that _________________

He wont believe it because it stopped working right after the driver installation which he said was my fault, since i told him to do it

| You're in a CS class and he thinks that a file copy blew out his USB drive? Bop him on the head with something. I'm sure that if it wasn't hardware the format (and whatever your teacher would be able to do under Linux) would have brought him back a working system. Just curious, how did you install the driver? And for what hardware? |

Yea I know it sounds pathetic
We went to the hardware driver tab in ubuntu
and we installed a nivida driver 173 (recommended) or something, cant exactly remember the number
It was for his graphics card (integrated) _________________

He said that he tried the USB on other system's which didn't work.
I don't really think it's a software issue, as stated before, a format would bring everything back to normal. As extra possible evidence that it isn't the graphics drivers fault, when you first Install Windows on a Hard Drive, most people install the Graphics Drivers on their Hard Drive. When they receieve viruses or for what ever reason they want to reformat, they format the hard drive and install Window's again, for it to work perfectly. It isn't a software issue. _________________

| It's a coincidence, but not worth losing a friend over if he doesn't want to believe you. That Patriot 16GB drive is $42 on Newegg right now, maybe get him a Christmas present early. |
