well the com im using is pentium dual core while my dad is using core2 duo .

my dad uses his computer for surfing web , email , listening to music only , which i dont think he will need such a processor while i need it lol .

so im thinking of exchanging it . ( which he would definately agree ) i hv checked both mother boards and no problem , they both can suppor dual core and core2 duo .

now , do i have to spread the thermal grease again on it ? or i can just put 2 coms down , take off both fan , and exchange places ? or any other places i should becareful of and check first ?

If your going to exchange the processors, then watch out for the pins on the socket. Sometimes the pins get bent when you're removing the CPU. Confused

This is why all the desktops in my house have flat CPU. The pins are on the mobo.

He clearly said "pins on the socket".

Yes, but alot of people have them on the cpu. Its easier with them on the socket.

Yes, bending a pin would nearly 100% destroy the CPU. In some rare situations, the pin can be returned like this.

When my AMD Athlon II X4 came, a single pin right in the corner was bent nearly sideways. I went downstairs, got some tweezers, and straightened it and it worked fine.

Shit got me real nervous.

I had that happen once. I was cleaning out an apartment for work (was maintenance at this place) and found a P4 3.2ghz processor with the pins on the cpu and one bent just like that. I bent it back with my finger nail and tested it and it worked. Talk about lucky. I sold it later to someone for like 50 bucks. But man, that 1 pin can be the end of the whole thing.

Actually, with most CPUs, there are a lot of pins that serve for nothing more than grounding, even some that aren't connected to anything at all.

The easiest/safest way to unbend a pin is through use of a credit card or something.

Grounding isn't important in a circuit at all...
