if I take a antenna from a 108mbps router and put that on a 54mbps router
will it make any difference

Unless the internals go along with it, probably not. Your connection's too slow for it to matter much anyway (as long as the distance between your router/system isn't stupidly far).

Your connection needs to be ~5* faster than it already is to max out the 54Mbps router's bandwidth, and unless you have wireless n devices you wouldn't see any difference (aside from a slightly stronger signal perhaps).

I think the it just transmits the signal. The router its self gives off the power.
