|
|
I have a question. I recently bought a pretty good computer, and I expected the download speed to be very high. My old computer had a limit of around 150 kb/s. Now, my new computer has it too. Even though the specs are ENTIRELY different.
New computer:
3 gb Ram
512 mb Nvidia GeForce 9600 GT
3 GHz Processor
WinXP SP2 (I'll upgrade the SP soon.)(i don't know whether it's 32 or 64 bit. How can i find out ?)
Old:
1 gb Ram
128 mb Graphic card
1.2 Ghz Processor
WinXP SP3
I did, however, put the old network card in the new computer, because the new one didn't work. Is that the problem ?
My modem/internet speed is 100 Mb/s.

It could be your location, modem, router, or interference if it's wireless.

Location: I live in the Netherlands, so that wouldn't be it.
Modem: I have no idea.
Router: Also, no idea.
This is all the info i can give you about my network card by the way: 3Com EtherLink XL 10/100 PCI For Complete PC Management NIC (3C905C-TX)
How do I find out whether it's the modem or the router that is slow ?

A router is a box that sits next to your modem, you only need it if you want wireless internet or a lan network.
You probably just plug into the modem and don't have a router, which is fine.
Your ping and speed are horribly low considering how close you are to that server, I'm going to recommend you run this tool.
It will optimize your connection and reset your network configuration if it's horribly wrong.
I swear by it for puzzling internet problems.

It could be 1 mile or 50, either way that's pretty close.

Same thing, jeez.
Ok so your ping increased, so the socketfix probably optimized your network card, which is good.
But your speed is the same, so it's probably just the speed you're going to get from your ISP.

Internet Service Provider, in this case it's Planet Technologies.
You could order better internet, or order from someone else.

Well, how do I order ? I mean, there aren't any 'internet stores' around here.
Can I order better internet on the internet ?
