Made it in a spare period at school. It's pretty basic, I used about 7 layers so as to; get the lighting right, heighten contrast, darken tones nearing the bottom and create a misty blur effect.

Its a nice effect.
Although as you said, not too hard to reproduce.

I love the effect on the left but dislike the right; the left seems to fit well with the gray but the right just has a weird looking blur then a less smooth switch to gray.

Thanks for that, didn't notice it because I was on a pretty dodgy computer screen. I might get around to changing it.
