i was wondering why my TV displays at lower resolution than my monitor.
Monitor=1680x1050 / TV=1360x765 max
Yes the TV is HD 1080p so i though i could go up to atleast 1920x...
my bro has a similar TV and older graphics card and he can display it at higher res. Its connected w/ Vga(my bros too) since my monitor is using the dvi and i would need to get a converter thingie for monitor to switch to hdmi.
is there any way to make it bigger, atleast as my monitor res?would using a hdmi cable help?

Are you sure you have a 1080p TV.
I think you may have a 1080i TV.

Please confirm...
(Always wanted to say that)

I think you already answered your own question.

Wait, didn't you just say it was 1360x765? Where do you get 1080p out of that?

Seriously, your post makes no sense.

I have the same problem as him.
I have a 1080i TV.
When I connect a computer to it, the maximum resolution is 1360x765.
When I installed latest Nvidia drivers, the nVidia Control Panel allowed me to force higher resolutions but at higher resolutions the edges are cut off due to scaling...
I asked some people and they said 1080i down scales it for some reason and 1080p can support 1920*1080...
This is why I'd like him to double check for 1080i or 1080p...

The resolution is still 1920x1080. It's not progressive, but interlaced, that's the difference.

@OP: you might want to EDID over drive, in case your HDMI cable is too long and it doesn't get the EDID properly. Ah, sorry, you were using VGA. Have you tried forcing 1920x1080? The display might require some external drivers (.inf) to have all the resolutions displayed.

TV uses NTSC D1 as resolution
PCs are better than TVs because they are not restricted by that NTSC D1 resolution though.... HD TV is other story

HDTV 1080p/24
1920 x 1080 at 24 fps
and
HDTV 720p/30
1280 x 720 at 30 fps

thats the standard formats for HDTV

PC is only restricted to your Video Card configuration and Screen specs

btw

NTSC D1 /PAL D1 are
720 x 486 at 29.97 fps for NTSC and 25 fps for PAL

Thx for all the replies, i finally got it to work. Add resolution thing worked perfectly, nothing cut off. It can go up to 2k but i didint try it, 1920x1080 is good enough.

Then your TV isn't 1080i, it was just deceptively marketed as such. What they mean is it will accept a 1080i input, and scale it down to the panels native resolution.

The correct resolution for you to set it to would be 1366x768.
