They all claim to be "compatible" but I've had issues with Norton, Panda, Kaspersky all dicking with my games and other programs.

Yes but wtf? For someone who doesn't know or for someone who tries an antirus for the first time? It's stupid.

i haven't used AVs in the last 3 years and not been infected. just don't download retarded stuff and be careful where you browse to and stuff

IMO antiviruses are mainly to protect the grannies checking their email clicking those viagra links. computer literacy and caution will get you further than an AV

just my 0.02$

I agree with Slugsnack. I've been running my machines for at least 8 years with no AV or firewall and I've had maybe one or two minor and easy to remove viruses. I'm sat behind a NAT router, so the firewall is somewhat redundant, but intelligent browsing and a little caution go a long way. I find such programs extremely intrusive and limiting.

However, I'd consider myself to an advanced user, so if you don't know how malware can exploit HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon then I'd suggest you stick to an AV.

Oh, and just a note to those of you who think that running more than one firewall or AV package gives you higher protection - you are wrong and you are killing your system Razz
