Wrong.
It is a CD-R, so I should think not if it is burnt onto it.

Certain DVD writers has the ability to "shread" data off a disc.
Some Lite-ON models have it, it's called Smart Erase.

Smart Erase erases ALL the data of the disk so you can trow them away without worrying someone else might read it (by destroying the lead-in or everything on the disk).
But it sounds to me that he just wants to erase certain parts of the disk.

My crazy way: scratch off the part of the disk which contains the sensitive data manually with anything sharp.

You've obviously never used this method... Because you wont be able to used your CD anymore.

You can't erase a CD-R and he is saying the only way to erase it is by destroying the disc...

It's impossible to erase data from a CD-R and still use the disc afterwards.
