I booted up my computer this morning to find that my computer had been infected with the fake antivirus 'System Security Version 4.51'.
It has infected almost all of my .exe's, and when I try to execute them, it gives me a message that says 'Application cannot be executed. name.exe is infected. Please activate your antivirus software'. and then terminates the program.
I cannot use anything that might help me. My currently installed antivirus can't run, taskmanager is infected, and firefox is fucked. It's a miracle that internet explorer is still working.
Can anyone tell me how to fix this? If you're going to tell me to download an antivirus, could you please recommend some?
Thanks. |

I would probably get NOD32 as your antivirus and also download malware bytes.
Boot into safe mode and do a virus scan w/ your AV and with malware bytes then delete whatever viruses it finds. |

Alright. Also if you can get any Anti-Virus to work i'd suggest komodo (or was it comodo?) since it'll probably wipe the shit out of that virus. Helped me for a few days, but then I realized that my system was so fucked up that I just reformatted. I suggest you do that, back up things on a hard-drive if it comes to that. |

You can just wipe your hard drive. Do you have your important files backed up? |

Hook your infected hard drive up to a new computer. Scan the infected hard drive with Malware Bytes Anti-Malware. Then put the infected hard drive (well by now it shouldn't be that infected) back into the original computer. Boot up the original computer and scan the hard drive again. The reason you have to scan again is because when you scanned it on the other computer it's registry wasn't the active registry. _________________

Anyways, just got back from tennis, and problem solved.
Before leaving for tennis, I ran Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware on Full Scan, using Safe Mode. After getting back, I removed the infected files and rebooted in normal Windows XP.
I'm currently running
Registry Mechanic, to fix the registry keys.
Malwarebyte's Full Scan, to remove anything that might have been left behind.
Spyware Doctor, to kill any spyware that's on my computer
McAfee Full Scan, to remove any viruses that could be remaining on my PC.
Thanks for everyone's help. :3 |
