64 bit processor - reformat- 32 bit... what?

Because of all the talk about 32 bit and 64 bit...

I have a 64 bit processor. I reformatted one day, with the same disk as last time, and now suddenly, my installation was a 32 bit. No big difference, but I would like to know why such a thing would happen Sad

Because you installed a 32bit OS on a 64 processor? Arch x86_64 is what you want ;]

I remember after freshly building my PC, my step dad installed it with the same disk I reformatted with. I don't know how it could go to 32 bit now.

Are you sure it wasn't x86 to begin with?

Actually, your processor may support both 32 and 64 bit. Get CPU-z (here) and check.

Under instructions, you should see something similar to:
MMX (+), 3DNow! (+), SSE, SSE2, SSE3, x86-64.

My computer has AMD Athlon 64 3800+ and it came with 32 bit XP.
