Since I had multiple failures with installing Arch Linux along side with Windows XP (System crash, hal.dll, corrupt installation, etc...fixed it all), I decided to go with Fedora. I booted the LiveCD, saying "Hey, this is kinda cool", so I booted back into windows to shrink and make a new partition (running on the one with 3 gigs left lul) for fedora. I did that, but the problem starts here: When I clicked "Install to Hard Drive", it did not detect my second partition. It assumed my first partition was alone. Do I need unallocated space for this to work?

Wait, how is Arch doing that to your system? It must be something you are doing because it's not going to touch anything like hal.dll unless you tell it to. I think you should read the Arch wiki on how to install and set it up properly.

Insufficient CD space, and I don't have a DVD drive (I KNOW, EPIC FAIL)
And Linux is the only good enough system I know of to hack on (the real definition of hack...)
EDIT: Noz3001
I got hal.dll'd after a power outage after... I forgot. Strange, but I easily fixed it.

Don't blame my beloved arch :[.

So you mean you want to modify the kernel and stuff? (real hacking)

Not unless I really need to. I still have plenty to learn.
The Arch Linux installation got me all riled up. I'm all like "ZOMG WTF???" I should have read up on it. Now you got me thinking again. PM me some screenies of Arch Linux.

But no one answered my real question:

Arch + Awesome3 in my VM (only for programming hence the simple window manager): http://i32.tinypic.com/2zq9d21.png . Got no screenshots of the one i've got on my desktop, so here's one from someone else: http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/4156/screenshottwl.png . It's using fluxbox.

You dont really need unallocated space to do it. Most setup wizards let you set up the partitions manually

Apparently, not fedora.
I got my Arch Linux installation CD at hand. I'll give you another try, bby.

If you're just using Linux to dick around (like I'm assuming you would be), you'd be best off just running it inside a VM. There isn't really any reason to use it on a desktop over Windows, so if it's just for fucking around, put it in a VM and save yourself the hassle.
