Well I did a lot of research and these cards are in my budget. I'm stumped on which one. I was looking at the xfx 4890 xxx edition. But I'm still not sure. I play all sorts of games, crysis, far cry 2, hawx. Is it just personal preference?

HD4890s are more power efficient, good overclockers, use GDDR5 and DX10.1, while GTX275s run cooler, use GDDR3 and DX10. HD4890s are a bit slower than GTX275s with most games, but are significantly cheaper.
I'd wait for ATi to release it's DX11 cards (5850, 5870, etc), scheduled for release in Q3 or Q4 2009, before spending any major chunk of cash on anything. It's apparently loads more efficient than DX10.

If you still want to get one and you live where it's hot then don't get a 4890, mine runs at 70 degrees Celsius under load with even with 3 fans pointed toward it.

Most video cards are designed to run hot. 70-75c+ under load is perfectly normal for a 4890.

@Zarr: Newegg posts XFX's GTX 275 at $210 while XFX's HD 4890 is $200. Not much of a difference. Also, the GTX 275's wider GDDR3 memory bus balances out the HD 4890's faster (and inherently more expensive) GDDR5 memory that uses a thinner bus.
If you plan on getting one of them, I'd personally go with the GTX 275. But honestly, both of them seem rather expensive compared to their lower-end counterparts, the GTX 260 and HD 4870. You can nearly get two HD 4870s for the price of one GTX 275 or HD 4890.

At the time of posting, the general price difference between the two was closer to $50. With the price difference of about $10 at this point, I'd probably go with the 275 as well.
Still, considering the only marginal difference in power between 260s/275s and 4870s/4890s, those would certainly seem to be a good deal better in terms of price/performance.
