For the next two months, I am going to try and learn as much C++ as possible.

So i've decided to order some books. Could anyone link me some books from Amazon http://www.amazon.com/ that you recommend are good for all levels?

I am also interested in game programming, so if theres any books worth checking out, please link them!

Thank you! Very Happy

Edit:

-I was thinking on buying this as my first book http://www.amazon.com/Primer-Plus-5th-Stephen-Prata/dp/0672326973/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247195278&sr=8-1 does anyone else have it?

Awesome, glad you approve of it! Very Happy

And, out of these three Game Programming / Design books, which one seems best?

Beginning C++ Through Game Programming: http://www.amazon.com/Beginning-C-Through-Game-Programming/dp/1598633600/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247197614&sr=8-1

The Ultimate Guide to Video Game Writing and Design: http://www.amazon.com/Ultimate-Guide-Video-Writing-Design/dp/158065066X/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247197614&sr=8-5

Game Programming All in One: http://www.amazon.com/Game-Programming-All-Jonathan-Harbour/dp/1598632892/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1247197614&sr=8-3

I suggest you to just stick with that C++ Primer 5th. Its an awesome book, it alone should be enough.

Yeah I would say stick with the Primer 5th book rather than reading books focused solely on programming video games. That will come in due time.

And you can always supplement the book with web help such as www.cprogramming.com or www.cplusplus.com etc etc

get a very strong grasp of C++ before you start even looking at those video game books.

Also. Programming windows 5th edition by Charles Petzold. It's about the win32 api, but all examples are in C++

Any books relating to the WinAPI and D3D are about all you'll need. C++ is just the syntax, which you'll learn rather quickly.

Most of these books teach concepts you won't deal with in a video game; using the C++ standard library (The STD namespace), vectors, strings, etc. The data types are entirely different, as are many other aspects of the Windows API.

You won't use vectors, strings etc in a video game?

They sure as shit simplify stuff.
