The standard resolution on those two monitors seem a little high for 21.5" monitors. Can't see any reason for a resolution higher than 1680x1050 for monitors that size. Is the huge FPS drop with games and shit really worth it for the slightly improved detail?

I wouldn't call the FPS drop huge, depending on the graphics card you own. With graphics cards capable of pumping out higher memory bandwidths, the increased resolution should not be a problem. Then again, not everyone owns enthusiast GPUs. You could also always run the games at lower resolutions (1280x720) and upscale.

Bollocks, im running a 21.5" at 1920x1080, i have no drop in FPS and its great for watching HD movies. (16:9 widescreen kicks ass!)
When I was buying it the guy at the shop recommended that I take the 21.5" over the 22" and I love it.

Unless you have a newer nVidia card with the latest drivers (which fuck the frame rate of resolutions lower than 1920x1080 for some reason) or something stupidly powerful, you'd probably get pretty significantly better frame rates with graphically demanding games if you used a 1680x1080 res.
For everything else, even with a low-end card (8400GS/HD4350 or something), you wouldn't notice any difference in terms of FPS between 1920x1050 and 1680x1050, of course.

I'd go for the ASUS monitor aswell...
If your not happy with the 1920*1080, you can lower it...

I own a 9800gt 512mb. My game is tf2. Tf2 is the fucking worst optomized game ever, and with a 1.3k comp, i still have to go to low end graphics.
