First, wow, it's been a long time since I've been on these forums.

Anyways, I'm moving into a house here pretty soon and its a 3-story building, and I have a wireless G router (don't have the router next to me atm, but I can provide more detail if asked) and I have a very strong feeling that it won't project the signal from the bottom floor up to the 3rd floor. So I was thinking about getting a second router and placing it on the second floor and having it bounce the signal from the first router.
I would buy a high signal strength wireless N router, but I am the only person in the house whose laptop uses wireless N (I have 4 other friends in the house) so I still need to make it so that they can use the wireless anywhere in the house (plus the basement).

How would I go about doing this?
I was thinking about buying a cheap wireless N router and hooking it up on the first floor (where the cable box is) and having the wireless G router bounce off of that router on the 2nd floor.

But how would I actually set this up?
Any suggestions on what router would be useful for this purpose?

I don't really know much about wireless networking and such, but my friend has an Xtreme N and according to him it produces excellent signal even from far distances.

How big is your house?! I agree with Ndure just get a really nice N router and your all set. I doubt you need a great distance for it to work.

It's not how big, its what the walls are made of.
The majority of the house has concrete walls and has tile flooring as well, so pushing the signal through that will be a pain.

Plus, I could probably get a 2nd wireless G router cheaper than a good high quality N router.

Are your doors also made of iron bars and is your room 6' by 6' with no windows? Razz It depends how you want to connect them, if you want to connect one wirelessly you would set the 2nd router into client mode, another way would be to connect an ethernet cable from the LAN port of router A into the LAN port of router B and disable DHCP on router B. You may also have to change the ip on router B, it would be better to use a wireless access point.

Lol im describing a jail cell, just playing around. I think all you need to do is if your router supports client mode just set it to that and configure the settings and it will then act as an access point.

ok, that's what I didn't know.
I had lost my router's manual and I have the ip address to access the firmware in the router memorized so I can mess with it still, hopedully I can find it in there.
