Well this guy wants a graphical upgrade and asked me which card to get he has 200 dollars to upgrade, or a little over max is 50 bucks over. My real question is nvidia or ATI? He wants it for gaming, like up to date gaming like FEAR 2 or maybe crysis TF2 stuff like that.
I was aiming at this card:

make sure you take the size into account if you go for that card, it seems chunky. _________________

In the price range of the first card, get either the GTX 275 or HD4890.
The GTX275 is slightly faster than the HD4890 in nVidia optimized games (Crysis, COD4/5, etc), draws quite a bit less power on idle and is slightly quieter than the HD4890, however the HD4890 runs cooler, is slightly faster in non-nVidia optimized games (Fallout 3, L4D, etc) and draws quite a bit less power on load and is ever so slightly smaller.
When I say "slightly" with the FPS rates, I'm talking 2-3FPS at most. They're quite even. Get whichever is cheaper.
At a lower price point ($80-$100 less or so) with only a bit of performance lost, there's the GTX260 and HD4870, which, again, offer ridiculously similar performance. If he doesn't want to go over $200, get whichever is cheaper.
EDIT: Oh, ew. A board with an nVidia chipset. ATI card + nVidia chipset = fail. Get either the GTX260 or GTX275. _________________

I remember theres this card that kind of sucks, but if you buy two of it for $240 and crossfire them, it's potential increases by 100% and is equal or better to a $600 card.
It just came out btw. |
