When I play a game on my computer but also try to serf the internet, it takes forever and it makes me lag really bad. The CPU is at 100% the entire time and I am using ~400-600MB of RAM (a lot for what I have. I end up with 800mb of page files)
I just heard about overclocking, and it makes your computer faster, but can overclocking damage your computer by possibly making it overheat? Also, what can you overclock?
thanks for the help!
note: here is my current computer

When was the last time you reinstalled/installed windows?
Formatting your hard drive and reinstalling windows isn't a bad a idea to keep your OS running fast.
If you really can't reinstall Windows, defragment your hard drive using the Disk Defragmeneter Windows provides. I personally use Disk keeper 2008 as it works better, although you have to buy it. Also delete files you don't need and run a virus check.
What's overclocking? Overclocking is basically changing the clock speeds of your CPU/RAM. I.E; Your CPU is at 2.4ghz, you overclock it to 3.0ghz.
Yes it can damage your CPU if you manage to set your voltage too high / use unstable settings for a while. When you overclock, your CPU temperature will raise.
Considering you don't have a aftermarket CPU heatsink/cooler I wouldn't recommend trying it as you won't be able to get that much of a boost.
If you're just surfing the web, I doubt your specs are the issue, it's most likely your OS/HDD.

It's hardily worth it to overclock that CPU. Perform the aforementioned virus scan and defrag with JKDefrag (it's freeware, and better than the shitty ones people try to sell). Not much else to do, unless you reinstall an OS.

my hard drive is 60+% free space, and I haven't reinstalled windows ever. I don't see how that would help either. I do defrag every other week or so. Also, it's not a virus, I think it has more to do with having an old computer
the other thing I'm doing is trying to run this one game in two windows, but it lags me too much
also, why can't my computer turn on when I set it to the higher voltage?

Reinstalling the sys os has several pros, your registry is probably filled with shit which slows down the comp etcetxcetc
anyways don't overclock your computer, it won't work good with the one you currently have.

not really.
the registry can be hilariously bloated with little impact.
