So I have 2 SATA HDs attached in my computer. One of them holds Windows XP, and the other one holds Windows Vista. Usually, when I boot up my computer, it goes into the Vista boot selection screen.
-> Older versions of Windows
-> Windows Vista
Now, without thinking, I reformatted my Windows XP HDD, and now it shows the Windows XP boot screen only, with no Windows Vista option.
Is there any way I can modify the Windows XP Boot.ini to boot into my E:/ Drive (which holds Vista)? I don't want to reformat my Windows Vista.
Thanks.
Oh, and I tried that thing at the CMOS screen where I press F11 to boot into other drives. Doesn't work.

Just start going into Vista's Setup and opt to Repair instead of install. (Didn't check out the link.)

I can't seem to find the Repair. I remember finding some recovery console once, but not this time.

Is your Vista Disc a Vista Disc or HP/ACER/Comapny Recovery Disc?

Sometime after Setup loads, there will be a window with the Windows logo and Vista name, along with a button labeled "Install now". Look at the bottom of that window for the option to Repair. If the automated repair doesn't do the trick (or kick in, I can't recall the process for repair at this time), if you get ahold of the recovery console, the fixboot and fixmbr commands should do the trick, you can throw in a chkdsk /f if you want to first for good measure.

there is obviously something wrong with your "bcd"(boot controller disk)
I can fix it for you but(!) you have to make use of a CD/ISO called "UBCD".
You must then search for yourself and find it because we don't need or want to search for how to fix it but make use of google.
If you don't know were to find your VISTA install disk at try considering a "modified" version of VIsta (tinyvista) cut down to 699mb. I can't tell you were to look because I am in demonvoid(vip, gotta pay 30 bucks USD).
Good LUCK!
-Cheers saf
P.S:
THERE IS NO BOOT.INI ON VISTA YOU MORONS PLEASE LEARN TO KNOW YOUR SHIT BEFORE YOU MAKE MORE PEOPLE FUCK UP THERE COMPUTERS. SEARCH BEFORE GIVING ADVICE.
.
Thank you

Seriously did any of the other members mentioned something about boot.ini? Also what's with the run around telling OP to get this and get that when all he needs is his Vista disc to do a repair.
TinyVista for $30 bucks!?!
Your brain must be made of horse shit cause TinyVista is free and you can get it at almost any site, just Google it!
IF YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOUR DOING, THEN YOU USED THE EASIEST WAY TO HELP. NOT SOME RUN AROUND, SO IT LOOKS LIKE YOU CAN'T EVEN FIX A SIMPLE PROBLEM

I stated that I payed for demonvoid "site" entrance fee. So Swat I think you owe me an apology.

I know you can get TinyVista free, and when quickly read it, I didn't realise that the $30 was for your demonoid account...
That's not the only reason why I agreed with him, also everyone is saying to insert disc and do a repair...
No one had even said the word boot.ini except OP, that probably the main reason why I agreed with him...
And you got angry at everyone for something they didn't do...
