|
|
My computer seems to lag when I leave it on for a week or so. How would I make it faster with specific software? The only times I've fixed it is reformatting(do not want). I am running CCleaner as we speak, would a defragment fix this problem?(I leave it on for torrenting)
Here are my specs:
3.2 ghz Phenom II X4 920 (OC'd from 2.
2x2 1066 Fatal1y or some shit Ram
Samsung 640 GB hard drive
ATI Radeon Sapphire 4830

It's no huge deal to restart every once in a while, is it?
And no, a defrag probably wouldn't solve your problems.

I agree, leaving a computer on for a week, you probably wouldn't notice any difference for a while, but eventually will run into some "health" problems... Your better off turning it off when ever your know your not going to be using it for at least another 30/60 Minutes...

If switching to linux is more of a solution than it is a hassle - do it
otherwise - stop torrenting, or max out your disk cache options if you must.

Wrong, it's better for the computers health to leave it on 24/7, have in mind that it cool downs, heats up, cool downs, heats up etc at every restart, it's better for the components to either always stay warm or cooled down.
I'm leaving my computer on for a week or so, then I shut it down while I'm in school and then turn it on for another week etc.. That way it stays cold for several hours before it stays warm for another week.

only partially right, but your idea is getting there
it is simply looking at which affects your computer more:
- deterioration by heat
- mechanical wear
find an optimal solution for this problem. it's different for each type of computer.

Yeah, I heard that booting up everyday makes things screw up, but it seems like computers get slower if you leave it on for a long time? Just wondering if this can be fixed with software (using tuneup like Yaoi suggested)
@Safko: don't you recognize any drop in performance if you leave it on for a week? :\
