Is it essential for one to have a fan? I am planing on getting a external HD. By essential i mean, should i get one with a fan if i am planing on using it for 3hours a day.

Nop, I currently have around 3External's running most of each day...
I don't know what you mean by fan, but they are standard Maxtor and Western Digital drives...

Also you can connect your Xbox 360 to your computer a couple of ways...

2)Media Player Extender

Well, for movies it might not hurt to set up a small fan facing it while you are watching the movie
