Is there any way to skip the update download on Steam and play the game right away? I tried launching it from the .exe in the isntall folder and that didn't work. Any ideas? It took me a week to download this game and now the update seems even slower. I've had it on for about 5 hours and it's still at 0%

delete clientregistry.blob and try the download again, hopefully you will get assigned to a new steam server.

As far as I know, I don't think you can. Well, for me, I had to have had it updated first, and whenever they had an update, i was still able to play but with the updates downloading in the background. You are probably just downloading the mandatory updates first.

Okay, this is absolutely ridiculous. Every hour or so it stops downloading and says "Updating paused". When I click Resume Updating, it restarts at 0%... Complete waste of money...

Just message steam and no you can't skip the updates.
Not if you want to play on steam.

This shouldn't happen, it should be restartable at any point in time.

I live on Okinawa, Japan. You can google map it. It's an incredibly small island and I pretty much have dial-up speed internet. The military base I'm on doesn't allow any other internet except the one that they provide (so no satellite/other companies).
Also, I found a way to stop the restarting at 0. I clicked on Launch Game and it brought up the seperate window that says Updating Game and it has the progressive bar. I left it on for a while and it still downloading but the main Steam window says Download Starting and is stuck. So I got it fixed. Only 24 hours left on the approx. download time, yay
