You don't read the instructions to start off with...

Just put a small bit in the middle and let the heatsink spread it.

its so easy even i could do it

1. open da case
2. put ur hand in da case
3. take out dat cpu fan
4. zomg! thers a cpu in there

and remember (stolen off newegg)

LESS IS MORE!! USE ONLY TWO RICE SIZED GRAINS (UNCOOKED) WORTH OF ARCTIC SILVER ON THE CENTER OF CPU. SPIN AROUND A FEW TIMES UNILL YOU HAVE A QUARTER SIZED CIRCLE IN THE MIDDLE. DONE AND DONE.

Lol'd @ "UNCOOKED".
Yeah, you really only need a small dot or very thin line down the center (what's recommended for newer CPUs), although the HS/Fan should really spread it all out anyway.

every thermal compound has their own recommended way to apply it on specific cpus.
some recommend putting a straight line across while some recommend putting a little dot.
what's the name of the thermal compound do you have?

Theres no difference on what compound he have, not when applying the
compound.

You said the 2 different ways. They work on (almost) every compound.

there is a difference, and f.y.i you can kill a cpu by using too much conductive thermal paste.

Maybe if you slather the entire tube all over the place like an idiot.

Some goop doesn't conduct electricity, like ceramique and the MX stuff. Worst case scenario is you overheat, trip the thermal warning and your computer shuts off.

If i put a line accross the cpu.
And spread it with a stick or something.
Will it be enough to cover hole cpu?

What do you recommend?
1 thin layer of thermal compund or just a dot and let heat sink spread it?

You don't even have to spread it if you do the line. Either way, the HS will distribute the compound.
