A few months ago, I bought 2G of RAM. (My computer only has 1g) I was under the impression, it was just plug in, and go. I tried this, no go. I have DDR2, OCZ PC2 6400 RAM.
I have pretty good-average specs beyond RAM. (2.6Ghz processor?, 8800 GT Nvidia?)
Well, whenever I would try to boot it up, I would get a BSOD... Help? Why? _________________

We need more information. Try to get pictures and specific computer specifications (the motherboard especially). And also BIOS settings.
When does it crash? Just at the beginning of Windows booting? Or far into Windows' boot up? _________________

did you switch the mem cards? if you did, try opening up your computer and seeing if your mem card is loose. _________________

No, Definatley not loose, I tried setting/Resetting about 40 times. It would get a BSOD right after the boot screen. Also, I could boot it in safe mode, but not normal. _________________

What operating system? I'm going to assume your motherboard supports the DDR2 you bought for it. |

You're not giving enough info for us to help you out!
You originally have 1GB and you went out to get 2GB.
You installed the 2GB and thought it will work but it did not.
Now your system just BSOD.
Did the BSOD occur after you installed the ram or before?
Did you even remove the new piece of ram that you bought?
Have you tried installing the new ram by itself while taking out the old piece? |

Are you mixing the RAM cards? They should be the same brand. _________________

Yes, my board supports two pieces of RAM (DDR2). I would lock it in, start it up, and by the time the (Vista) Orb would pop up, bam, BSOD. I am not swapping RAM, I believe that it is a BIOS setting(Speed/Power). My manufacturer (Gateway) Says the computer should support it. Unfortunately, my BIOS is a bit harder to figure out than the ones I would search on Google, and Id rather not go messing around with the base settings of my computer. Sorry about not giving enough information, I had done it a week or two ago, and after 2 days of trial and error, was forced to go back to 1GB of RAM, which is working fine. _________________

Either the OP is trolling or he does not know shit.
A person who will not follow to suggestion given by the rest of his peers because he thinks he knows every thing is a person that will never learn.
Swapping ram was a suggestion and refusing to follow the simplest of advice means this person is hopeless and continuing to help is just a waste of time.
If the OP can't even listen to a professional then I'll be happy to have him bring the system to me while I do the exact same suggestion and then charging him $150.
Think!
You ever though maybe the ram provide by Gateway is not compatible with your OCZ?! |

It was actually the other way around, And yes, I did think this. I havent had any experience with RAM, Im 13. This is MY first computer, and this thread is not a troll. I have gone on several different websites to make sure that it would be compatible. The Speeds match up, but I dont know what Ive been doing wrong. Perhaps if I posted my Computer series+A link to the RAM I bought? _________________

Ram makers will only certified their own ram with selected motherboards or computer systems, but they will not guarantee it will work together with the type of ram you already have.
And yeah post what you need so it give us more info. |
