So, I put in my new HDD and mounted it, connected my SATA and the 4pin connector thing, but when I turn on my computer it doesn't work. When it gets to the Windows Logo, it restarts, but if I unplug the HDD and use the one I already have, everything is normal. Anyone know why?
Thanks. _________________

1. Does it make any strange noises or anything (indicating a head crash or other malfunction)?
2. Does BIOS recognize it at all? |

Check if windows is properly installed in your Drive.
It's most likely a configuration problem in your boot.ini _________________

Just hit whatever button it prompts you to hit to enter BIOS setup and see if it has anything under devices like it does when you have the other HDD connected. |

Try formatting the new harddrive, if it isn't already clean.
You can go into BIOS, by hitting F2 or something (that's how it works on my laptop), then search for changes, I think you can do that with an unlocked BIOS, my laptops BIOS is locked. <_<
If everything fails, google. (Y) _________________

Have both your HDDs plug in and press F8, select disable restart on system failure and see what error messages you get.
for the 2nd HD which power did you plug in? |

There is a pin on the side of the HDD ( it will have a white thing on it) you have to make sure you set it on the slave one (it is indicated on the side) and not the master, then you also have to see that your computer is not using that as your boot up drive. You can change the boot option through your BIOS, but you will have to set the white piece manually. |

The "white piece" also known as a jumper are used for IDE drives to tell the Bios which is Master and other Slave. SATA drives don't use jumper to set them apart, it's all done in the bios.
Jumper settings on some SATA drive is the reduce it's speed.
e.g. Some Seagate drives comes a mini-jumper to limit the drive from operating at SATA 3G, the user has to remove it in order to run at its certified rate.
