Hello. If you remember me, i had a stupid lag for about a year on my puter.
It was coming from msconfig services. (My bff fixed it).
Though now, i'm pretty sure i have a virus (ads opening randomly as soon as i'm on any browser, surfing).
One of my sister when she was on msn, got the popular "Hey look this blablabla.YourEmailHere.com" from my dad's msn. So i guess we do have a virus.

Could anyone suggest me a good anti virus?
I used to have Avast! but it pretty got useless, detecting FireFox as a spy / trojan.

I used hijackthis to get a log file, if you can please help me with it :

Kay, i used to have it.
I want an anti-virus that is efficient, enough to do a good virus scan, but that doesn't make my computer slow down like a bitch.
I think i'm gonna download it.
Thanks.

I'm not a professional at Hijackthis logfiles, but you have a BSO and LSP... I'm not sure if BSO's can integrate into firefox, but they can into Internet Explorer. This could have been the reason youre antivirus detects firefox as a virus. Hijackthis can remove BSO's and you can google for LSP fix on the web. yay ^_^

Well, my dad uses internet explorer, so that doesn't matter actually.
About AVG, it says trial version. Should i get a torrent instead? (cracked).

-Jon.

Edit : This link doesn't work for me, i don't know why.
Another anti-virus suggestion otherwise?

Edit² : Okay i just got Avira AntiVirus. Doing a full scan right now. (1 Warning at the moment).

Use Lavasoft Adaware and Spybot Search & Destroy for the malware, and I think ESET has a beta version of Smart Security that you can find here that's free.
I'd also tell your dad to change his MSN's password, since it may have been jacked.

I'll make a check on firefox folder.
I scanned C: and D: disks, didn't find anything but MapleStory.exe (trojan? lol i heard about that one error... Didn't delete it.)
Where can i find the addons? Cause if i scan the system its got more than 300000 files >.>..

The "C:\Windows\Explorer.EXE" entry looks a bit fishy, especially considering the second entry for "C:\Windows\explorer.exe". I don't trust it.

Also, download accelerators don't do anything. DAP.exe might be why Avast was detecting firefox as a virus.

Firefox addons are in Tools > Add-ons, just check to see if they're all legit. I don't think it would be those, to be honest..

@Karakawe : Okay thanks, checked. DAP's in it. Should i get Avast back? Cause i just uninstalled antivir, making me lag more than a virus could do >.>

@Zarr : You're right, it's wierd, especially when in processes my explorer.exe process takes up to 50% of my cpu randomly. I'll look further into this.

Edit : Okay basically what happens most of the time, if i get on ragnarok or maple, at first it's fluid (maple fps : 35+, and ragnarok is really fluid).
But then i get lag spikes and my fps drops to 10 or so
and every minute it drops to 0, then gets back to 10.. etc. All the time.
I had that for about a year too.
I recently cleaned the fan, it wasn't that dusty.
My laptop's often really hot under. I got something to let it "breath" but it still gets really hot.
Can it have anything to do with my graphic card (lag spikes) ?

About the anti-virus, I'm not going to say it's better security-wise not to have one, but they really can cut down on performance at times. You can go AV-commando, just keep up your guard against shady downloads and services.
And as for the overheating, it wouldn't hurt to get a laptop cooler. At the very least, a good, solid surface for when you're gaming.

I got a grid to let the air of my fan out.
The anti-viruses are only for my dad.
I personally never get any virus, but he does -_-.
It's my laptop. I can't wait for him to get his own.
I think i'm just gonna keep it the 'no antivirus' way cause anyway my router is like a firewall, and i'm on a neighbor's connection (they doesn't seem to use the connection at all.. they're all old people in my building mostly).
I'll just make a full scan every once in a while.
I'll check for a laptop cooler. Thanks for all of your advices guys, it helped me a lot.

P.S : Whenever i watch a video or a movie, it does lag every once in a while. Where can that come from?
