if your building then just get the best of whatever is compatible if your buying full comp by something cheap and skimp on the gfx card then go buy a better card

But, if you do do that, your computer will suck hard. Most pre builts are HORRIBLE. Even if you do get a new video card. No exceptions.

What would happen if i had like a great radeon X2 card like a 4870 x2 i recall with a AMD dual core 2.8Ghz? Crappy framerates?

Your cpu will get bottlenecked.

Yeah, games --when given enough GPU power-- are surprisingly CPU-bound. I wish I could find that benchjoe... they pitted top of the line ATI cards against top of the line NVidia cards on i7 and C2D systems.
