Alright, so my other computer just fucked up and I was planning to build another computer somewhere soon, but I'll just do it now. My brother will pay for half of the computer and I'll pay for the other half. Can someone come up with a good build for around 800USD? Thanks.

1. What do you plan on doing with it? Gaming? Web browsing? Video editing? Watching movies?
2. Do you need a monitor, keyboard, mouse?

Oh yeah, forgot about that. I'll probably do little gaming, seeing as I have a PS3 and a 360. Um.. I do a lot of photoshop stuff.. I like to watch movies I guess. The only games I'll play are probably Archlord, CS:S, little Maple.
Nah, I have all the extras.

You really don't need to go over the top with the video card, maybe a 4830 for the light gaming. Pair it with a C2D E8400 or a Q6600 if you plan to do lots of tasks like x264 video encoding. The Gigabyte DS3L was discontinued on Newegg, but you could pick up an ASUS P5Q PRO for $130. Get whatever case you want with good ventilation, some (2x2GB?) DDR2 800 memory. Doesn't have to be anything special.

One last thing, do you plan on overclocking anything (CPU, GPU, RAM, etc)?

Shit, you just keep getting me. Yeah, I plan to overclock the CPU. And whatever else I can get out of it. My brother will do the overclocking though, he knows how to.
@Karakawe I want it to be special though.

Buy liquid helium and set a record.
You could knock it up to a 4850, and the newer C2Qs (some) got price drops.

Could get an HD 4850 instead of the 4830, it's a good card. kls85 had a thread about price drops on the newer Core 2 Quads, although the Q6600 will probably overclock better.

The Tuniq Tower is probably a better CPU heatsink/fan.
Here's the thread with the price drops.
You can shave off some cash by getting a PSU with a lower wattage (stick to the Corsairs, PC Power/cooling, and Antecs).

Hmm. Can you link me to your suggestions? Thanks, I'll check out that thread.

Oh, sorry. Here's a 450W Corsair PSU for $70, here's the Tuniq Tower CPU cooler, and the HD 4850 you chose is a pretty good one.

Aim for a quad core with that kind of a budget. As far as I know, OCZ is a good brand, but the price is comparatively high for RAM. Either step up to a 9800GTX+, or get a cheaper HD 4850. Their "optimal" price range is $130 IMO. Look for a Tuniq Tower, Ultra-120 eXtreme, or Noctua NH-12.
Overall, it's still an impressive base-build.

Hm. 450W? You sure that's enough? Aha. The Tuniq Tower I found, seems good I'll add it on.
@superweapons:
I figured I wouldn't need a quad core, don't do much with 3d graphics stuff like that, or atleast that's what my brother told me. I do plan to upgrade in the future.
Few questions - Setup to 9800GTX (whaaaat?)
