I don't get it. I just got my computer about a month ago and the hard drive is a 640 GB SATA ll. A few days ago i had 500 gb left but now I'm down to 430 gb. I recorded a lot of tv using windows media center but i went to the folder where it stored all my video and deleted them because i didn't need it anymore but i didn't really get all my memory back.

When I open my C drive and look at how big each file/folder is it only adds up to around 20 gb but i am at 429 gb out of 555 gb free which makes no sense to me.

I've done all the things like deleting temp internet files and all that but I only gain back a few hundred mb.

Vista btw. Anyone know why this is happening. My antivirus hasn't picked anything up but idk.

It could be used by your OS like hibernation, error reporting, etc.

Run disk clean up and see how space you get back.

spending 5 minutes isolating where it is all going would be a good start.

system restore will also crunch down a set amount of space.

If your using Vista, I hear a common problem is that it has an automatic backup program and so your constantly losing hard drive space because of it.
