Get a perma-link (a saved wish list), Newegg assigned you a custom set of cookies that we don't have.

Overkill much?

But, yes, it is a good build. No power supply? Corsair 520HX or 620HX (if you like modular), 550TX or 650TX if you're fine with not-so-awesome cable management. I'm personally not a big fan of expensive cases, and I've also heard Antec Hundred series are rather loud, but hopefully, it shouldn't be too bad.

If those two requirements are the only things you want to get out of this computer, this is way over the top, superweapons is right...

Bad build. Monitor is more expensive than graphics card? Wtf? With $1500, I would get a GTX 295, i7 920, cheapest LGA 1366 mobo, cheapest 6GB of DDR3 RAM, cheapest 1920x1080 monitor, 1TB HDD, 750W PSU.

That JUST gets up to $1500 without a case, CPU cooler, any drives. A budget's a budget (if that's what OP is sticking to).
If I were him, I'd just put together a Q6600/9450 or 9550 with a 4850/4870 and put the rest towards a hobby or something. It all comes down to need. >:

So, uhh.

Where's the PSU? Disk drive? CPU fan? Thermal grease?

Yeah, the build looks good, I was just countering the guy who said to go i7/GTX 295 with $1500.
By the way, you're not buying an aftermarket CPU cooler for it..?

He won't need an aftermarket CPU cooler. Not unless he is trying to super overclock his comp. FYI ATI FAILS. You will get no where with ATI i highly recommend going nvidia if you intend on anything high end graphics wise.

6 gigs of ram is a waste. Getting a cheap MB will kill you in the end. Remeber everything goes through the MB in the end. Also cheap ram is also bad if it it low end and you're trying to game with it.

Also i recommend getting midrange quad core and just pumping it up 20% overclock. Won't do any hardcore damage if you run on a decent Asus Socket775 MB and it's cheaper.

An aftermarket cooler is always recommended. Lower temps are always good.
You've obviously not seen any benchmarks. Ati's HD48X0 line is currently at the top. Don't know whats going down with the GTX 295, but those ATI cards have been at the top for awhile now. Don't be a fanboy, it won't get you anywhere.

Cheapest LGA 1366 doesn't mean its shit. Gigabyte's excellent low priced motherboard is far from shit.

6GB of ram isn't a waste. i7 does triple channels. Use a X64 OS. I'm sure he knows he needs to get a decent pair of ram, but he isn't going to be a moron and shoot for 1600MHz Corsairs at 100$ a pop or something. You can't even utilize all that bandwidth yet.

how does ati fail?
the origional 4870 is almost on par with the gtx 260 c216 revision, and it blows the g92 260 out of the water.

No it's not. The numbers are the same but ATI simply does not perform worth shit lol. The new one ATI made (not going to bother finding it's name) gets miserable frame rates on more graphics intensive games. The only thing ATI cards seem to match nvidia with is shaders.... Everything else nvidia > ATI.
