| Beyond making sure it's virus-clean and doesn't have any malware, along with using CCleaner, there's not too much you can do. If you haven't formatted in a long time (or ever), I recommend you get an XP install disk and reformat (remembering to back up.. >_>). None can escape the Windows rot.

Teach. lul | start> run> regedit> hkey_current_user> software> delete all that you have uninstalled.

To elaborate:
Start > Run or press Windows key +R.
When the dialog opens, type "msconfig" and click OK.
Go to Services Tab, find whatever the service's name is (I can never remember these things for XP), and right click > Disable it.
