|
|
Okay, so I'm just browsing my computer, cef, doing the usual, and out of nowhere the prompt comes up if I want to shut down my computer/restart it/standby
This prompt: (Sorry if pic is pretty big.)
I noticed something was wrong this morning when I woke up to go to school, I turned off my computer, went to brush my teeth, came back to change and noticed it turned back on, I turned it off again, and about 1 minute later it turned back on, so I just hit the power to my PSU. If anyone knows what is wrong, please help. Thanks.

Start > Run > Msconfig > Start Up TAB
Untick the stuff you don't want to boot up on start up except drivers/antivirises etc

it could just be coincidence: you could have hit alt+f4, while the desktop was the active window, and for the computer turning on by itself, that happened to me once after turning the router on. the computer had been formatted recently and had barely anything on it.

I don't even touch alt f4.. when I'm in StarCraft playing games, it happens, when I'm just browsing normally.. it happens.
Nothing out of the usual, except for that blank space there..

Just for the common-knowledge of others on this forum, often programmers just don't include this part. Sure, sometimes it's malware, but don't bank on it.

This may be a little bit far-fetched, but it may be where the case buttons connect to your motherboard. If pushing the button on your computer opens that prompt normally, there may be something wrong with it. Check the connections and if you don't see anything there, unplug the wire or disable the option to open the shut down/restart/standby prompt when the button is pushed (set it to do nothing).

If the problem is still occurring, I doubt that the process had anything to do with it. Since then it would be two things influencing it.

Eh, should I just disable the option where it says like "Pressing the power button does: blah blah" Should I choose the nothing option?

Yeah, that'd be simpler.

Here's what you probably did if the advanced things above fail^^:
Go to System Options (in Control Panel) and make sure that it isnt set to
auto turn off... you know the place where it asks you what time you want
screen saver to activate and hard drive to turn on...

There's a "Power Options" in Control panel for XP as well, right?
