The biggest difference between the HD 4830 and the HD 4850 is the number of shader processors. Performance shouldn't take too much of a hit (I would guess slightly faster than the 8800GT). If you really decide you want to go with an HD 4850, look for a cheaper 512MB model, you can almost get an HD 4870 with $170.

For some reason, I had thought 4850s were more expensive... Top of newegg list was more popular ones, I suppose. Here's the normal Powercolor HD 4850. The 4850 also has a higher clock.

currently $500 video cards are shitting themselves over crysis at max settings on a 24 inch monitor.
and the old 2 gigs will slow down your new 4 gigs.

If you're taking parts from a pre-built computer, chances are the ram is clocked at 667MHz or less. The RAM you'll be getting for the build you posted is clocked at 800MHz. If you mix 667MHz (or lower) and 800MHz RAM, the 800MHz RAM will underclock itself to match the slower RAM.

If it's only a CD drive, you won't be able to install from the Vista DVD. Wink

I'm going to guess that it's Parallel ATA, the long ribbon connector inside. You should be able to use it on the Gigabyte board.
