If hes on that low budget dont get him an i7
You'll save a 100$ on mobo
Also i think you should go with an Antec 300
Thatll also save you 100$

He needs to spend less on useless shit he doesn't need such as i7, and ricer cases like the 1200. He's throwing away gaming performance for flashiness.

Drop the 1200 and get a more reasonable case, drop the i7 and get an E5500 and matching board, unless he truly has the need for a quad, which I doubt.

Then get a 4850x2 or 4870x2, which ever the budget allows.

Educate him on why that's a bad buying decision.

That's a waste, it'll be slower than a 4870x2, and waste a PCI-e port + waste room in the case.

Rule of thumb: X2 cards are always faster than 2 cards in CF.

4850X2 > Dual 4850 in CF.

If you want i7, get the 920 because with the 945, you're paying 2x the money for 20% more performance. With i7, don't get Intel's X58 mobo, it only has 4 RAM slots. Get one with 6 RAM slots.

To save some money, buy only 1 stick of 2GB DDR3 RAM. If 2GB isn't enough, you can always buy 5 more sticks for 12GB when DDR3 comes down to $30 per 2GB, instead of $80 for 2GB o_O.
