I need her to have something that will have a long battery run like 8 hours, also want fast performance and small screen to make carrying it easier, i mean about 12 inches for small screen, not less or more than that.
Fast performance = 1GB+ Ram, 500 GB harddrive?, and 2.5+ GHz
I need a laptop for my sister to go to college, and I would like to know the best one for her.
She mentions having Dell, not HP, for some reason, so please list some good computers.
Also, she has to use the laptop for 4-6 years, so make sure it lasts long.

A decent netbook should be good for her.

The MSI Wind is my ideal netbook IMO.

This looks good too.

Well actually, i think those screens are too small, try 12 inches.
Also, I think a faster CPU would be better for her.
Price range should be about 500-1000 dollars, we can afford it.

you could get a cheaper one but lenovo is good. It will more than likely come with readyboost so you can up the ram to 2-4gb? with a flash drive.

Your criteria of 12 in. screen makes it hard to look for a decent notebook that isn't seriously overpriced.

There are 12inch screen notebooks.

For your other criteria, This is the best.

You could always use the Dell website to pick one out with FreeBSD or Ubuntu (if they still do those). That would offset the cost of getting it through Dell.com, but would allow you to choose all the parts.
Otherwise, I'm not sure what to suggest. Not too into laptops (sorry if this was a waste of time. Shocked)

a 12 inch screen is pretty small, if you were going to use it for school work i would get at least a 15 inch. my laptop's screen is 15" and that's just enough, any smaller and it would be a pain for doing homework. depends though, if she likes it small then her choice, standard size laptop's aren't awkward for carrying around. just something you should think about before you buy something too small.

i presume you're trying to type 500gb, but you're too retarded. that isn't even much room nowadays, especially since lots of fast broadband packages come with at least 20gb of data usage. then you've got games/movies you burn from the video shop and programs you install on your computer.

I highly doubt you'll get a 12" laptop with a 500GB hard drive and a 2.5GHz processor (Unless it's a single core) for $1000

15 inchers are much better suited for work, i dont know about USA but in the UK, you can get a cute lil 15" with c2duo and 2 gigs + 450gb for only £400($750(yes but UK is way overpriced))

Oh and for the Hdd, you dont need much at all, say 150 for music and movies MAX, and work is like 50gb max, taking into account they may be doing design or video stuff
