It might be because the pc is giving more power to the vmware and forcing everything else to lag.

New versions of vmware, ie 6.5 up has it built in i believe.
Edit: I find that majority of the time its cause you're running ms in the host computer, that that msg comes up.

i have dx9 already and also im not running maple on host computer. Also how do i get a network connection on my VM i mean i have one but thats if i detach the usb wireless adapter from my host and attach it to the guest. So i would have to sacrifice one for the other. I want to use both at same time and that bridge connection crap doesn't seem to work.

seems to work for my wireless. make sure you get latest vmware 6.5. all you need is insert your XP CD. no need to worry about other drivers

When you add the line to your vmx file, put quotes around the values. Like this:
mks.enable3d = "TRUE"
svga.vramSize = "67108864"
vmmouse.present = "FALSE"
As for your internet, it should work with the default settings. Try googling your exact problem and see if anyone else has got it and found a solution (usually works).

When I installed my vmware, this step wasn't required, or well at least each time i try to put it in, it gives me an error .. perhaps not required in newer versions or something ?

ive tried googling my problem multiple times have added those lines. I tried this a while back once, then i was getting a message saying the 3direct couldn't be turned on. After that i just deleted my vm. Now i made a new one still I have done what everyone said to do but it just won't work. It is really odd. Im using VMWARE ace i think.

hay, what is the minimum requirement for graphics input for vmare to run smoothly with 2 operating maplestory clients? (eg, 256, 512 etc..)

VMWare's DX and 3d graphics capabilities aren't that great yet. The trouble you are having is from the hardware acceleration issues and the fact that VMWare doesn't have "full" dx support. the d3d switch you made is sorta a test thing they have.

I see, but how come others have it running successfully after making the switch?

I think there's things you can do to improve it. All about optimization

You need to use Vmware Workstation

What's bottlenecking then? His "trouble" is that it is graphically running slow. His CPU usage isn't high so which part of his computer do you think is causing the bottleneck? If he simply had a better graphics hard, there wouldn't be any trouble. It would run perfectly smooth.

Yo do you even know what you're talking about? He doesn't need to improve or optimize anything... he's just trying to get it to work in the first place, and if you read a little closer you'd realize it's because he's not using the right program. And there's actually not many ways you can improve or optimize it.

There are many ways you can improve and optimize VMWare. Getting the perfect specs and finding the best virtual hardware for example (since it's all virtual)
It's not his gfx card because as you can tell, he can run it smoothly on his regular desktop. By DESIGN the d3d capabilities are poor right now.
When i said optimization i meant graphically btw (obviously)
Quote: | Accelerated 3-D Limitations
Experimental support for Direct3D applies only to Windows 2000 and Windows XP guests, on hosts running Windows 2000, Windows XP, or Linux.
Experimental support has the following limitations:
# Workstation accelerates DirectX 8 applications, and DirectX 9 applications that use only the subset of DirectX 8.
# Support for 3-D applications is not optimized for performance.
# OpenGL applications run in software emulation mode.
Not all aspects of 3-D acceleration are enabled. The following 3-D features are not accelerated:
# Pixel and vertex shaders
# Multiple vertex streams
# Hardware bump-mapping, environment mapping
# Projected textures
# Textures with one, three, or four dimensions |
This is taken off the VMWare website for direct3d
"# Support for 3-D applications is not optimized for performance."
"Not all aspects of 3-D acceleration are enabled. The following 3-D features are not accelerated:"
