|
|
So I just built a new computer which has Windows XP Home, Service Pack 3, and I decided to install SimTower, which is a PC game from 1994 that I had on a really old computer.
After a while, I decided that I was never really going to play it, but when I went to uninstall it, there was nothing in Add/Remove programs and no uninstall.exe or anything like that in the Program directory. I also explored the CD for a possible uninstall option but to no avail.
Basically I don't want to resort to just deleted the entry in Program Files, because I know that doesn't really get rid of everything in the registry, etc..
Is there any way to completely uninstall an app, without an uninstaller?
Cheers,

You can try going into computers safe mode and deleting the folder from there. Sometimes it deletes everything associated with the folder.

If its an old game, I would take the route of manually uninstalling the game. Ie. manually deleting the games program directory, and userdata/save folders (sometimes in a different location, like my docs). And then take out any registry keys under HKLM and HKCU. Then going into the normal add/remove program list and then attempting the remove. It will say that the program appears to be uninstalled and you can then just let windows clean-up the rest

the only problem here it is the program doesn't show up in the Add/Remove programs list, but the rest of this sounds good.

I'm assuming it is in your documents folder or in your program files folder (My Computer>Local Disk>Program Files) since it does not appear in your add/remove list.
So all the programs everyone told you will be useless. Just play around in those two folders and you will find it. Since it didn't actually "install" on your computer all you have to do is delete it like you would delete a picture or something. Then just delete it from your recycle bin.

| If it's that old it might not even use the registry.

all i would do is delete the program files, and even make a search to see if there are any other files from the game spread around the computer. then go into the registry and ctrl + f to search the name. if it's in the registry at all it would be under local machine -> software

there honestly is nothing in the program files folder. no uninstall.exe no nothing. but i follow the stops of what a few other people said and I think I totally removed it. xD
