I got pissed at my slow laptop so I decided to reformat it, its working all nice and fast, but i can't get the internet working.
It uses wireless, it used to work fine before, but when i try connecting now it doesnt work, does this have to do with its key thing.? Im not that great with computers. |

Maybe you have to install your wireless network drivers?

Most likely. You need to find the key you set in your router settings. Check the router manual on how to get to the config but it's most likely:
192.168.x.1 in your address bar in your browser, replace "x" with "0" "1" or "2" depending on your brand of router. |

Or .254 if its something like a BT homehub. That last useable host address is getting more and more common on typical home routers. If you can't do that, assuming your router has been left at default settings, it may have come with simple WEP security in-place. In which case look for a sticker on the base/side of the box and see if it gives you the key. Input that on the laptop and you should be away.

Somehow, without those ways, it 'started' to connect. (Messed around laptop after i posted). It claims 'limited or no connectivity' that cant be true, im sitting beside my desktop with my laptop on lap.

You didn't state whether you had logged into the router and checked/altered settings. If you haven't you really should do. Use an ethernet patch cable to temporarily hard-wire in to do it. Eliminate the wireless altogether as at the moment its getting you nowhere. |

forgot to add that if you get limited or no connectivity, that can sometimes mean you have the wrong key. do what psych said and use a cable to connect to your router, and then under it there should be an address in the form of 192.168.x.x. type that into a web browser and your router settings should show up. _________________

wpa is more secure, but thanks for informing me about the wii, better not change the key to wpa. no one in my neighbourhood's going to be able to crack my wep anyway. _________________
