$189 shipped. Not bad at all, especially for something that was just released.

^^ Wrong.... If it was that much you should just buy a couple 250gb hard drives....

the 1.5TB has an exact replica (except for size of course) that cost about 30 USD less.... 30 USD for 500gb more!!!

1.5TB @ 190 USD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148337&Tpk=1.5tb

1.0TB @ 160 USD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148274

Back in Australia a 750GB won't hurt us. It costs a mere $170-$180. So why would a 1TB drive be priced at $700?

As you can see the cost per GB is very cheap, which is unusual. Generally the best product in any given category has a huge price increase over the second best thing, and since this is a new product I'm surprised they didn't jack up the price even more for the first few weeks.

I'm intrigued by the 'just released' comment. They've been available on overclockers.co.uk for months.

Nonetheless, they do look nice. I've got a set of 6 1TB drives on my main machine, and I may consider upgrading a couple to 1.5TB drives.

very well priced, for an average 1TB drive in the UK you're looking at about £90 ($180)

I always thought that they were already out. Huh.

Anyways, the price per gig is amazing. If I wasn't so obsessed about Raptor drives, I'd definitely pick one of these up.

Get 3 of them and have them in a RAID 0. Insane speed + insane storage. Why would you need that much space? Well, if you have a 1.2 MB/sec connection, you can torrent 1 TB every month.

Yeah, insanely fast and insanely silly.

I mean, you already have 3 of them, might as well buy an extra one and put them in Raid 10 (or 0/1) or whatever you kids call it now and days.
Get the best of both worlds. Not to mention that would suck if you lost all your information.

No.
These, at least for me, would be for storage. If I wanted HDD speed, I'd just get a raptor.
