My friends is in charge of a rather large domain (40+ people) and he is trying to find a program that detects if one of the computers in the network is downloading a torrent. He's googled it with different syntaxes and words but he can't find anything. I was wondering if you guys knew of any such program?

Does your friend need to know how many times they download a torrent or just know when exactly they are downloading it (Example: 12:20PM- 9/15/0Cool

Here are one of the best programs. Even PirateBay uses it. So you know its good.

http://www.opentracker.net/index.jsp

If thats not what he needs these are actual torrent trackers.

http://sourceforge.net/projects/torrenttrader/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tbdevnet/

I did my research.. Tons of it. Good luck. Read the description to see which one suits him best.

you could try blocking some ports, but you'll probably end up with more problems.

You could filter or log known torrent tracker IPs. Identifying torrent traffic shouldn't be all that possible as most torrent clients encrypt data for this reason.

I don't think oib111 wants to find who is downloading them and log it and it all be okay. I think he wants to block the use of torrents totally... Am i correct?

Also, i dont think you should do this. Torrenting is a great way for businesses to share huge files from computer to computer.

Jim makes a program and passes onto accounting, who then makes a revision, sends it back to Jim and then they are both seeding the final product. Now it can be sent out to Business, Manager and all the others to download at fast speeds!

There's FTP or HTTP for that. If you want to stop people from downloading a torrent, just check for multiple connections. For example, downloading from a HTTP server only sends 1 connect request to the server. However, BitTorrent sends tens or hundreds of connects, one to each other peer. Search for sent packets to x amount of IPs and block that program.

I don't think he'd be able to actually block that specific program, but limiting everyone on the network to ~100 connections would probably fuck torrents up pretty badly, but allow for pretty much everything else.

It won't work anymore I think. Are you sure you have the latest one? In my school, I can get through but they don't have the latest crap installed and they won't allow you to download because once you save it, it can't be runned or installed.

Hey every body
that was helpful , Thanks

what i was trying to say is
can 40+ users running on the same network\domain run a torrent in the same time .... NO

i was hoping there was something like a torrent protocol detector
so that everybody uses the server for torrent download requests and they doesn't get harmed by the torrents

Torrents are'nt illegal i know

but if someone run a good healthy torrent he can suck all the speed
imagine two running two different torrents, they will suck all the speed and the ping
so the internet will be useless to other users

download something like poison ivy RAT
install a server on each of the machines that reconnects to the main machine running PI client
every now and then just check which programs are open on the machine if you see any bittorrent programs running kill the process and uninstall it remotely
