MHZ is MHZ, but how much work it does every clock cycle, how the architecture is layed out, optimizations, cache, bandwidth, pipelines, instruction sets, etc all play a bigger role in the grand scheme of things.
A Core2 duo is going to shit on an AMD x2 for example.
Obviously each core getting it's own thread for is one thing, but keeping them in sync when needed isn't the job of the CPU or the OS.

Just because it exists doesn't mean it will be available to the public ANY time soon. They want to milk dry all they have before they release something new.

Which is basically 4Gh. Somewhat. They divide the tasks up evenly?
How exactly do multi cores work? I know they are only better when you have multi thread program. But asides from that, dual cores (I.E. Wolfblade) burn them pretty bad. and I mean burn the quad cores. |
No. 2GHz is 2GHz regardless of how many cores there are. And they don't exactly divide up tasks evenly within a given program, but if the OS supports SMP it will divide tasks between multiple programs at least.
To answer your question op, clock frequency or "GHz" isn't a measure of performance at all, it's simply the rate at which the transistors switch. If all things are the same in a processor, cache, FSB speed etc then and only then should it be used as a measurement in performance. Core 2 Duos are so different and so much more efficient that they can far outperform a P4, regardless of how many cores we're talking.

You cannot compare different clock speeds with different processors... It is like comparing how sour red apples are to water.
Maybe not exactly, but even though it has a high clock speed does not mean it is better. |
K thanks now i know what to buy +rep
Thanks guyz

A basic answer is dual core means two computers so two computers running at 2.0 basically means a Pentium 4.0 ghz. Just a very basic answer here.

THG was a good site, until they sold it to some fat blooke who now made it look like a circus full of geeks that don't know how to do a proper test and review.
Man these used to do some cool videos where they created a system and filled it entirely with oil and another was see how much a cpu can be overclocked by pouring liquid nitrogen to cool it.

You still got the wrong idea that if a app. is multi-threaded then that means your cpu speed is combined. The speed in a cpu of a dual core or multi-core chip cannot be combined. If a program is to use up all of the cores then each core is only running at their designated speed.
The way you have to look at is each core as an individual and even if their working together, they're still independent from one another.
As for that 80 core cpu it's not going to be in the desktop market anytime soon, but comparing it to this s*hit, I say someday the computer overlord will rule over us.
Ai with advance life intelligence begins right now!

Exactly.
I'm getting so sick of OMG A 2GHZ DUAL CORE IS REALLY 4GHZ CUZ 2+2=4 LOLOLOLOL.
Sigh.
Let me say it again in bold print this time, clock frequency is a physical switching rate inside a processor, not a measure of performance.
