Taken right of Wiki
"Virtual memory is a computer system technique which gives an application program the impression that it has contiguous working memory, while in fact it may be physically fragmented and may even overflow on to disk storage. Systems that use this technique make programming of large applications easier and use real physical memory (e.g. RAM) more efficiently than those without virtual memory."

i think virtual memory is memory stored for use as RAM
virtual ram.

So it increases your ram?

It virtually increases your ram.

It allots programs a 'virtual computer' instead of just giving out a specific part of the memory. Right?
I mean instead of setting a fixed size for applications.?

| It allows applications to use more memory than the available RAM by using part of the hard drive as "memory." For example, I want to run a game that uses 1.5 GB of memory, but I only have 1GB of RAM. The program can still use 1.5GB of memory, but the other 500MB will be significantly slower than the 1GB. Think about it, hard drive - SATA drive 3 gigabits/sec (375MB/sec) vs RAM - >10GB/sec.

Also, as far as I can tell from my experience with it using an old laptop, it will eventually cause BSOD.

I am aware of that, I don't believe I said certain people don't.

Not every OS is using VM.

Um...virtual memory is pretty standard.
