I went to bought myself a new monitor, its pretty nice Smile although it was a little but over my budget..

http://www.samsung.com/ca/consumer/detail /detail.do?group=computersaccessories&type=monitors&subtype=lcd&model_cd=LS22MEWSFV/XAA

Anyone knows anything about lcd wide screenies? And what settings to have, and what to think about?

Quote:
Screen Size 22" Wide
Resolution 1680 x 1050
Brightness 300cd/㎡
Contrast Ratio DC 3000:1 (Static 700:1)
Response time 2ms (GTG)
Viewing Angle(Horizontal/Vertical) 160˚/160˚
Color Supported 16.7Mil.

Thats the spec, but my question is... Would it be wise to run it with the max resolution?

Why wouldn't it be safe to run it in 1680 x 1050, isn't that the point of having a widescreen moniter. My LG is at 1680 x 1050 and it seems fine.

From what I've learned by reading those tech. mags is that...

The lower the response time does not mean it's better. It's all a marketing gimmick. Sometimes a monitor with a longer response time may perform better than ones with a shorter response time.
The true way to see which monitor performs the best is to look at it physically and compare each of them side by side. Cool

Actually the faster the ms, the more realistic it becomes....

not to mention that i found a 20k:1 contrast monitor... it was so tempting to buy it...

You should check your graphics card. Does it support the 1680 x 1050 resolution? If you're using it for applications, then you don't really need to worry. You should have a decent graphics card to support that resolution if you play games. The higher the resolution, the less frame rate you will get. For example, if you get 40 FPS on Crysis with 1024 x 768, you might only get 20 FPS on 1680 x 1050.

Just a little hint (I guess I'll call it that)

If you like big icons than don't bother making it that high.

Ofcourse it supports 1680x1050. Unless the graphic card is from the 90's

having 1680x1050 on desktop, doesnt mean it is 1680x1050 in games.

For resolution, gpu ram is the most important. It has nothing to do how decent it is, because it wont run any faster if u have more than enough gpu ram.

I guess 512mb ram is fine. Above that is just PR-stunt (OMG GPU 1gb ram must be very good)/30" LCD that runs at very high resolutions.
