Alright so I gave Ubuntu(Linux) about 10gb of my hdd space. Not much but I'll probably increase it if I get my internet to work on it. I'm trying to connect with a motorola cable surfboard but when I boot linux, sign in, it doesn't connect. So I go to System>Administration>Network and all i see if a dial up connection. Can anyone help me? _________________
I had the same problem. Ok, first go to the menu panel and see the network picture (the two overlapped computers) click on it (or go to System>Administration>Network) and hit manual configuration. Choose unlock and enter your password and hit ok. Now on choose wired connection (under connection tab) and hit the properties button. If "Enable roaming mode" is checked uncheck it. Under configuration choose Automatic Configuration [DHCP] and click OK. Now click the Close button. Ok, now go to System>Administration>Network Tools. Choose whichever network device is right. When I did this only one of them had an IPv4 address that was something close like 192.168.254.x But it wasn't the right IP Address, it didn't have the right subnet mask. I waited a while and then all of a sudden the right IP address came up. It had the right subnet mask, gateway, etc. Just choose that and close it. _________________
