try reinstalling your internet software it may be damaged,
if the [System Volume Information folder] is clean a system restore could be used but if its infected you risk reinfecting your pc,
so try reinstalling your isp's software first and scan the [System Volume Information] if you have to use system restore

well first of all you have to go click the TOOLS menu,
so go into my computer,
in the my computer window you have "file. edit . view. favourites. TOOLS, help"
well click the TOOLS menu, at the bottom it will have FOLDER OPTIONS, click on that,
in the FOLDER OPTIONS window click the VIEW tab,
look down the list and you should see HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS,
in that sub menu you should see
DO NOT SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
click on SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
this will ask you to confirm you want to do it, say yes
now you should see the semi transparent SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION folder in the local disk usually C:\
so open my computer then local disk and you should now see the folder in there,
if you try to open it you will get ACCESSED DENIED because its a protected folder,
but a decent virus scanner should unlock it, you can do it yourself,
to do that you need to go back into FOLDER OPTIONS and uncheck the USE SIMPLE FILE SHARING option,
then you can right click the SYSTEM VOLUME INFORMATION folder and click SHARING AND SECURITY and add your user name to the list with full access,
there is another way but I'm not going into that,
the bottom line is you antivirus should gain access to it if its any good, it should ask you to confirm gaining access as well.
network scan or slaving it if its not clean may work, if nothing else you can save important files/pictures ect to the other pc if you do have to format it in the end,
bloody hell
that was a long post
