You need to partition your hard drive into sections.
Than, pop in that CD and install it on the blank HDD section.

Partitioning is actually extremely easy on the Ubuntu LiveCD...
Pop in the CD.
When it gives you a selection click "Start and/or Install Ubuntu".
Wait for it to load a desktop setting.
UBUNTU IS NOT INSTALLED
Click the icon that says install.
Go through the simple GUI install process.
When you come to a partitioning section, resize the first partition (Windows) with the resize button and click "Install it on this new partition" or something similar to that.
Click install.
Go get a life (only for an hour or two though)

Just got back from movies with my girlfriend after school...I do have a life...movie was 2:30 long so I had a bit too much of a life =[

Or you could get the 8.04 CD and use that in Windows, and theres an option to use Wubi to help with dual boot.

Umm... Click on the 79000mb one... then click on new partition table... then try to make it like an even 39500 or something... DONE
DO NOT INSTALL IT ON NTFS!
What i always found was easier was to install Ubuntu over my whole hard drive, open gparted, split my hard drive in half (figuratively), Pop in the Vista CD and select the NOT ext3 partition to write Vista on.

oh okay i see...
New Partition size: 39500 (or however big you want you linux hard drive to be)
Used as: ext3 (good)
Mount Point: / (yes just slash! NOTHING ELSE!!!)
If you had a bigger hard drive or only 1 operating system you could set a /home partition, /boot, /opt etc... Which is MUCH safer. lol.
Also, make another partition,
Partition Size: 1000
Used as: SWAP
