Ubuntu is open source, windows is not. ubuntu takes like 10mb of your ram, windows takes 250. Ubuntu gives you full administrator rights over your computer, windows prevents you at some places.
1.Ubuntu is based on GNU which was created to give the user freedom whilst Windows locks their users in more restrictions for every version released.
2. Refer to 1.
Conclusion:
Ubuntu is better, although windows is more adapted for games. So if you're a gamegeek I'd say use windows.
Else -> ubuntu,.

Linux is the best OS in my opinion. Open source. Don't take up lots of RAM. Nice graphics (Ubuntu comes with Compiz Fusion) and most the programs are open source. The only thing is Wine can't let you use all the windows programs you want and since like no1 uses Linux, I'm pretty sure there are like no drivers for it.

Don't use PC's for Servers =P. If your getting an Ubuntu server that will be just fine. Ever wonder why games never use PC servers and only Linux xD.

Lol of course Windows works. It's just most gaming servers use Linux for reasons I never really felt like researching xD

While I do in general prefer Linux to Windows, Ubuntu is dumbed down to the point you can barely consider it Linux.
If I had to pick only one, I'd go with XP, strictly for compatibility reasons. Ubuntu can be run live without installing it, so you can get a feel for it before you install anything(just remember it'll be really slow running off the cd-rom.)

PC does not mean computer with windows on it. However, it is refered that way, this guy means PC as just a regular computer. And obviously from the way he is talking, he is going to put linux on it.
Yes, to make a server it is really easy!
open terminal
Sudo apt-get install apache2
Type in your password
DONE!
Dont forget to setup your router for portforwarding Apache on port 80

You're full of shit and or retarded if you think Ubuntu takes 10mb of ram. And Windows doesn't limit you at all as to what you can do.
My fresh install of 8.04 uses high 600's right after boot. Search it and you'll find that other people have similar behavior.
My ArchLinux install sits at 90-100 and that's close to as minimalistic as you can get.

You can't compare them. It depends entirely on what you want it for... period.

Notice that I did a "like 10 mb of your ram". I know though that it does NOT TAKE 600MB, bullshit. Well if you have 50 viruses and 32523 spywares running in the background, not even windows takes that much.
Who's retarded?

Windows is not good, it's not windows that is good at "gameplaying". It's the game-developers who makes the games compatible with Windows, and not Linux. If the games were adapted to linux the performance would increase very much!
The problem is though, that at least over 70% uses windows.
(No, I'm not using linux. I'm a windows user.)
