u might have urge to ask wtf is a cpu socket converter......well i found 1 under my bed where i put all these crapy motherboards and SD-RAMs and CPUs..................

Yep, but they only exist for the old slot1 to socket370 like you have, and from socket 478 to 479(for using a mobile chip in a P4 board.)

In theory I don't see why you couldn't make a converter to run say a 478 chip in a 775 board. However you might lose the ability to use some features, and for the cost of the converter you may as well just get a cheap board instead.

There has got to be a severe performance penalty for doing that, bandwidth must be crippled.

Yeah, that chip is 100FSB and looking at the board I'm fairly certain it's a 66FSB board.

Actually, if you take apart a slot 1 processor, you'll see it's just a socket 370 chip on a PCB, with some cache on the PCB. So really, this is just the same thing as you'd normally see, just without the cache.
